When you need a book
Find an openly licensed textbook.
If you do not already have a PDF, Chapterlume can search publishers that release books under an open license and return candidates with links to the file.
Where the search looks
Search is limited on purpose to openly licensed and public-domain sources. That includes publishers such as OpenStax, LibreTexts, and the Open Textbook Library.
You get candidates, not a silent download of whatever the web has. Pick a book, use its PDF, and the rest of the path is the same as an upload: map chapters, then generate guides.
What search will not do
Copyrighted course books
A commercial textbook you were assigned is not fetched from the web. Upload a PDF you own.
Image-only scans
The file still has to contain text. A photo of each page will not extract until it has been through OCR.
A substitute for your edition
An open book is a real textbook, and it may not match the edition on your syllabus. Use it when that book is the one you are studying.
Before you search
Do I need an account?
Yes. Creating a guide, including one that starts from a search, is part of your study library.
Can I still upload after I look?
Yes. Search and upload are two ways to start. The chapter guide is the same shape either way.

The path
How it works
Chapterlume does not invent a course outline. It reads the textbook you give it, finds that book's chapters, and builds the guide, quiz, and final test from those pages.

FAQ
Short answers about files, copyright, accounts, and what a finished guide contains. The longer version of each topic lives on its own page.
