Questions
Before you upload the book.
Short answers about files, copyright, accounts, and what a finished guide contains. The longer version of each topic lives on its own page.
The book
Do I need my own PDF?
You can upload a text-based PDF you own, or search for an openly licensed textbook and start from that file.
Will you fetch my commercial textbook?
No. Search stays on open-license and public-domain sources such as OpenStax, LibreTexts, and the Open Textbook Library. Upload a copyrighted book yourself if you own it.
What about a scanned PDF?
Pages that are only images do not yield text. Run OCR first, then upload the text-based file.
Does the edition matter?
Yes. Chapters and page ranges come from the file you provide. A different printing can break the match with your syllabus.
The guide
What is inside a chapter?
An overview, learning objectives, key concepts, section summaries, study questions with model answers, memory hooks, and a multiple-choice quiz with explanations.
Are the answers included?
Yes. Study questions include a full model answer. Quiz items include an explanation. Older students also get written prompts with model answers on the final test.
When can I take the final test?
After chapter guides exist. The test is written from those guides, so generate the chapters you want covered first.
Why generate chapters one by one?
So a long book can proceed in pieces, and you can see each chapter appear instead of waiting on the entire volume.
The account
Who can open my guides?
The account that created them. Someone else signed in does not get that guide, including through the API.
Are quiz scores saved?
Yes. Attempts are stored per chapter. My study shows quizzes taken, your average best score, the next unquizzed chapter, and chapters under 80 percent.
Can I change my level later?
Your default level is on the account page. Each new guide can still use a different level.
Which levels exist?
Grades 1 through 12, college, and trade or vocational programs.

The path
How it works
Chapterlume does not invent a course outline. It reads the textbook you give it, finds that book's chapters, and builds the guide, quiz, and final test from those pages.
When you need a book
Open textbooks
If you do not already have a PDF, Chapterlume can search publishers that release books under an open license and return candidates with links to the file.

Progress
Scores stay on the guide. The study home shows what is ready, what you have quizzed, and where another pass would help.
